May 6, 2022 – National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) – Kansas City Current News Release
KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City Current has unveiled the Heartland kit, the team’s primary jersey for the 2022 NWSL season. The team will debut the kit at the regular season home opener on Sunday, May 8.
The NIKE custom kit highlights three currents featured in the club’s crest, symbolizing the organization’s world-class athletes, fans and the Kansas City community. A flood of Heartland red represents passion for the sport, responsibility to give back to the community and dedication to each other in the heartland. Accents of teal along the neckline and sides represent the hope, acceptance and optimism that lives inside all of us.
The Heartland kit also prominently displays the club’s official medical provider, Saint Luke’s Health System, across the front. Saint Luke’s is a fixture in the region and is world-renowned for their work in heart health.
The back of the kit features Palmer Square Capital Management, a $22 billion asset management firm. Based outside Kansas City with an office in London, Palmer Square has a long, successful history investing in corporate and structured credit.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC), the team’s official health insurance partner, is represented on the sleeve. The Current is working with Blue KC to release a new mental health and wellness platform in the coming weeks.
The kit will be worn with Heartland red shorts and the team’s signature teal socks. Exclusive to the 2022 season, kits will feature a metallic silver badge commemorating this year’s milestone 10th anniversary of the NWSL.
“It’s incredibly exciting to share the Heartland kits with our fans,” said Current co-owner Brittany Mahomes. “After being a part of developing the Current brand and crest last season, incorporating those elements into our kits was such a meaningful project.
