Liverpool, Man City talks dismissed as Mason Mount future stance at Chelsea revealed

Chelsea star Mason Mount is ready to commit his long-term future to the club, despite talk of interest from Liverpool, claims a source.

The England midfielder, despite being one of Thomas Tuchel’s generals, is one of the club’s lowest paid players. The 23-year-old is on around £70,000 a week after signing a five-year deal in the summer of 2019. Mount made his competitive debut for Chelsea a month later after returning from Derby on loan and he has become a first-team regular.

However, despite Tuchel’s reliance on him he has just two years left on his deal. Government sanctions have prevented the club from offering him, and a number of other Blues stars, new contracts.

That has prompted interest from rivals in the Premier League. And, according to the Sun on Sunday, Liverpool and Man City are watching developments closely.

But, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Portsmouth-born attacker is more than settled at Stamford Bridge. And he has reassured fans than Mount has every intention of staying in west London.

“Mason Mount’s priority has always been to stay at Chelsea. There are no doubts about his commitment, but certainly his situation is to be monitored like those of Marcos Alonso, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante,” Romano told Caughtoffside.

“In fact, all these players have been waiting for months to discuss the extension of the contract with Chelsea but there have been no changes; the sanctions have slowed down the contract renewal process.

Mason Mount integral to Chelsea progress

“Mason Mount’s contract remains pending but it will be one of the priorities for the club to extend the agreement with him and with N’Golo Kante, while Alonso has a good chance of returning to Spain. As of today, Mount is not in negotiations with Liverpool or Man City.”

It’s natural that some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs have been interested in Mount given Chelsea’s situation.
