UCL: Real-City Team News as Ancelotti Remains Hopeful

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will make a final decision on Kyle Walker’s availability on gameday for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.

City won the first leg in Manchester 4-3, with the newly crowned Spanish champions showing great resilience to fight back after trailing 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2.

With the advantage of hosting, Real will fancy their chances of progress but the two sides are evenly matched, hence interest in Walker’s availability after sustaining an ankle knock in the quarter-final win over Atletico Madrid.

John Stones will miss for City due to a thigh injury, while Joao Cancelo is set to return from suspension.

“Kyle trained today and he will travel,” Guardiola said. “Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will decide – he is three weeks without training but we are happy he is back. We will decide tomorrow.

“Joao is no doubt. He is really good.

“We will see with Kyle tomorrow how he is after treatment tonight and tomorrow. Then we will decide.”

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti said Casemiro will return for Los Blancos, but confirmed David Alaba will be unavailable after being replaced at half-time in the first leg last week.

On the situation in the tie, Ancelotti said: “They have an advantage and we have to put in a better performance.

“It’ll be very tough, but we’ve got an incredible opportunity to reach another final after having won LaLiga. There’s a really good vibe and we’re capable of doing it.”

Guardiola added: “We can play much, much worse than we played (in the first leg) and still win.

“No one can deny that my assessment is right, football is unpredictable, sometimes you get something you don’t deserve. In these stages we have to perform incredibly well.”
