Roy Keane highlights Marcus Rashford troubles, says he’s ‘playing like a child’

Roy Keane believes struggling Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has lost his “hunger” for the game and subsequently he has not “matured enough” at Old Trafford.

United have had a season to forget and Rashford similarly after being dropped for the 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday night. The 24-year-old’s form has drawn a huge question mark over his United future. Arsenal have been linked with the forward in recent weeks.

It it unlikely however that new boss Erik ten Hag will let the England man move on this summer without working with the former Premier League Academy Graduate of the Year (2019–20).

But the truth is Rashford has been nowhere near the player that he promised to be when he burst onto the Old Trafford scene in February 2016.

The England man has managed just five goals and two assists in 32 games in all competitions this season. And Ralf Rangnick dropped him to the bench against the Bees.

Rashford has not scored in the league since January despite being given opportunities by Rangnick in every position across the front three.

Anthony Elanga and Juan Mata were preferred against Brentford. And former United skipper Keane thinks Rashford has lost his desire.

“Whether it’s short on confidence, we’ve seen his quality before but we’ve not seen it for a year or two,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“I think he’s taken his eye off the ball, whatever [it is] with his off-the-field stuff. Rashford has been around for a few years now, he’s got that experience and played international football.

“But it doesn’t look like he’s matured enough. We’ve seen a few games recently, when he was playing at Liverpool through the middle, I said he was playing like a child.

“It’s as if he’s not learnt about the game. He’s drifting. He’s lost the hunger. These young players get a lot of money and good luck to them. But I think he’s lost the eye of the tiger and he’s struggling to get it back.”
