‘It’s something we need to address’; Rodgers pinpoints familiar failing in Leicester loss

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers admits he will need to address his side’s inability to defend set-pieces in the summer after they lost 3-1 to Tottenham.

The Foxes made a decent start to the contest but fell behind to Harry Kane’s 22nd-minute header. The England skipper headed home unmarked from Son Heung-min’s corner. Leicester matched Spurs for the rest of the first half but Son proved the difference after the interval.

The South Korea ace bagged his first with a smart shot on 60 minutes. And he then made sure of the points with a sublime curling effort in the 79th minute.

Kelechi Iheanacho netted a consolation for the visitors in stoppage time but Leicester remain 11th in the standings.

Rodgers felt his men played well enough to get something from the game. But the Northern Irishman knows that he will need to make summer signings to sort out a serious issue at the back.

“I think over the course of the game the scoreline is a little harsh,” he told BBC Sport. “We started well and Lloris makes a good save from Ayoze and we played with confidence.

“Defending corners has been a problem for us all season – we lack aggression and curtness. it was so disappointing.

“It is something we will have to look at in the summer through personnel. The mentality to head the ball is missing, it’s something we would need to address.”

Rodgers hails Leicester spirit

It has been a tough campaign for the East Midlanders. From achieving back-to-back fifth-place finishes, they are now down with the also-rans.

The Europa Conference could still bring silverware but they face a tough semi-final second-leg in Rome next week.

Rodgers made eight changes with that match in mind. And, despite the result, the former Liverpool chief was delighted with the way his charges refused to buckle.
