Newcastle named after Arsenal receive lowly offer for revitalised star Cedric Soares who ‘will leave’

Arsenal trio Martin Odegaard, Cedric Soares and Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal have reportedly received a proposal worth just £4m for Newcastle target Cedric Soares who it’s claimed will be sold this summer.

The Gunners remain firmly in the hunt for fourth spot at the business end of the season. Arsenal currently hold a two-point advantage over bitter rivals Tottenham. While other results will obviously be important, the rescheduled north London derby on May 12 is shaping up to be the biggest in years.

Arsenal had benefitted from the lack of a European campaign taking a toll on their squad. However, the injury bug has begun to bite in the second half of the season.

Kieran Tierney is out, while Thomas Partey has been a big miss in midfield. Furthermore, Takehiro Tomiyasu only recently returned from a lengthy lay-off through a calf injury.

His spell on the sidelines saw Cedric rise to the fore and give his ailing Arsenal career a new lease of life.

The Portuguese, 30, is capable of operating on either side and his presence has helped to ensure Tomiyasu’s absence was not a season-breaker.

So it comes as something of a surprise to see a report claim Cedric will be axed this summer.

Cedric Soares offer lodged – report

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claim the full-back ‘will leave Arsenal at the end of the season’. What’s more, they report an offer of ‘less than €5m (£4m)’ has already been lodged.

It’s stated that particular proposal has come from FC Porto in his native Portugal. However, it’s noted the player’s preference is in fact to remain in London with the Gunners.

Cedric has another two years left on his contract after this season. Logic would dictate Arsenal would only sell if they are dead set on signing a direct replacement.

But if the report is accurate and Cedric is moved on, a stay within England could yet materialise.

The report adds his versatility has caught the eye of Newcastle. Cedric is seemingly viewed as a smart piece of business to fill out their squad.
