Arsenal given ideal chance to sign Bundesliga ace Marcus Thuram with Gladbach 'eager to cash in'

Arsenal have been given a great opportunity to sign Marcus Thuram this summer amid claims Borussia Monchengladbach are ‘eager to cash in’ on him.

The left winger was in great form during 2020-21, notching 11 goals and 12 assists in all competitions. That form helped Gladbach finish eighth in the Bundesliga and reach the Champions League round of 16.

Thuram, 24, hasn’t been as effective this campaign. He has made 22 appearances so far due to suffering knee and muscle problems.

He has found the net three times in the German top flight, while also assisting another goal.

Despite his disappointing season, Thuram remains a highly rated attacker in Europe. And a Premier League move could be in store later this year.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been touted as potential suitors in recent seasons. But it is now the Gunners fronting the transfer race.

Marcus Thuram set for summer move

The Athletic provide a welcome boost to Mikel Arteta’s side. They claim Gladbach are ‘eager to cash in’ on Thuram due to his contract situation.

The France international’s deal expires next summer and he won’t renew. This means the German club must sell in the upcoming transfer window to avoid a free move elsewhere.

Thuram looks set to follow in the footsteps of Denis Zakaria. He ran down his contract before leaving for Juventus in a cut-price deal during January.

Gladbach will also have to do without influential defender Matthias Ginter next term. The 28-year-old will join a new club on a free transfer this summer.

Gladbach will accept offers worth around £15million for Thuram. That means Arsenal could capture an exciting forward for less than his actual transfer value.

It is now up to Gunners technical director Edu to decide if the move is worth it.

Arteta generally uses either Gabriel Martinelli or Emile Smith Rowe on the left wing. Given they are 20 and 21 respectively, he seems sorted for the foreseeable future in that position.
