Tottenham continue scouting mission as interest in Ligue 1 star Seko Fofana appears all the more genuine

Seko Fofana, Lucas Paqueta, Lyon v Lens, February 2022.

Tottenham reportedly had a scout in attendance to watch Lens midfielder Seko Fofana in Ligue 1 action again last week, pointing to genuine interest.

Spurs are one of a few Premier League sides to have been linked with Fofana. The midfielder appears to be on the radar of Burnley, Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

Tottenham’s reported interest stems from a scouting mission earlier this month. Indeed, Spurs had a man in attendance to watch Fofana in Lens’ 3-0 victory over Nice.

The midfielder did not get on the scoresheet, but gained a WhoScored rating of 7.29 for the match. What’s more, he has had a big impact for Lens this term.

Fofana has scored nine goals in all competitions this season, as well as providing one assist. The 26-year-old’s performances have quite rightly gained him admiration.

And Tottenham’s interest appears all the more genuine now. But! Football Club reports that they once again had a scout in attendance to watch Fofana, in a 2-1 victory over Lille.

The midfielder played 86 minutes in the victory. It seems Tottenham like what they see, after a couple of scouting trips to watch Fofana.

Lens have been successful in both games that Spurs reportedly monitored Fofana in. As captain, he clearly had an impact, despite not contributing to any goals.

Fofana played in England for a few years earlier in his career. He was owned by Manchester City from 2013 to 2016, and played for their academy side.

He also played senior football in England, making 21 appearances in the Championship for Fulham, in 2014/15.

Fofana scored one goal during his time at Fulham, and he may be interested in making more of an impact at a higher level, thanks to Premier League interest.

Spurs face competition for Fofana

The report also states that there are a number of other sides that could target the Lens man. From Ligue 1, both Marseille and Lyon are named.

There has been well documented interest from the Premier League, other than from Tottenham.
