Ralf Rangnick ‘positive’ about Erik ten Hag vision for Manchester United; details triple selection boost

Ralf Rangnick is ‘pretty positive’ Erik ten Hag will help Manchester United improve next season following his confirmation as the club’s next manager.

Ten Hag will take over from Rangnick at the end of the season. On Thursday, the Red Devils announced he had signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford. The deal also includes the option of a further year.

Rangnick, meanwhile, will begin a two-year consultancy role this summer. He will aid Ten Hag as Manchester United aim to get back among the Premier League title challengers.

Reports have been swirling about what potential changes Ten Hag could make. Senior players such as Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo could be affected, while Paul Pogba looks set to move on.

Ahead of United’s trip to Arsenal on Saturday, Rangnick was asked about the potential players who could arrive under Ten Hag.

He told reporters (via Manchester Evening News): “I don’t know. This is a question for the board. My focus is on the last remaining games. It’s better you speak to the board.”

The German then gave his opinion on his replacement. “We don’t know each other in person,” he admitted. “From what I’ve seen of him with Bayern Munich and Ajax now, I like his football.

“I’m pretty positive with a full pre-season and having the chance to build and mould his own staff with a new team, I’m pretty sure we’ll see a different team and improvement on the pitch.”

Attention then turned to the clash against Arsenal. Rangnick’s options will be boosted by the return of three players.

“Scott McTominay will be back and fit to play,” the interim boss revealed. “He’ll be available for the game tomorrow, the same with Raphael Varane.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is available again – he’s been training with us now. All the others are still injured, plus Paul Pogba.”
