Steven Gerrard tipped to disrupt Tottenham plan with Aston Villa pursuit of Premier League ‘catalyst’ Christian Eriksen

Transfer insider Dean Jones thinks Steven Gerrard would want Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen at Aston Villa, putting pay to a Tottenham plan.

Eriksen’s return to the Premier League has already been a success. The Dane has contributed to three goals in six games so far for Brentford.

The Bees’ swoop in January could have been seen as a risk, but Eriksen is showing his quality once again. Indeed, his move to Brentford now looks something of a stepping stone to bigger things.

A number of big sides have been linked with a move for the 30-year-old during his as yet short time at Brentford. And with his contract only running until the summer, a move could be on the cards.

He was one of their most important assets for much of his stay. The midfielder contributed to 159 goals for the north London outfit before his move to Inter Milan. It does look as if Eriksen to Spurs could bear fruit; his relationship with both the club and Antonio Conte helping matters.

However, transfer insider Dean Jones thinks Gerrard could scupper that. Indeed, he feels as if the Villa manager would be keen on signing Eriksen – the Villans are one of a number of clubs linked with a move.

“I think Gerrard has to be interested in Eriksen. We’ve seen already the impact he’s had at Brentford on results and on the players around him. It’s exactly the type of catalyst that Gerrard wants for his team,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

Gerrard’s ambition has been clear since the start of his tenure as Villa boss.

He has made a number of big signings already, and Eriksen could potentially be another.
