Everton weigh up Barcelona hijack for Adama Traore thanks to transfer connection to ignite summer rebuild

Everton will consider a move for Wolves winger Adama Traore if Barcelona do not buy him at the end of his loan spell, according to a report.

Wolves sent Adama Traore on loan to Barcelona during the January transfer window. He will remain with them until the summer, by which time the La Liga side will have the option to buy him permanently.

A positive start to life back at Barcelona led to the belief that such an operation was possible. However, now Traore’s permanence at Camp Nou is in doubt.

He started three La Liga games in the month of February but is yet to add to that tally since. What’s more, he is yet to score since his return to Catalonia.

Barcelona may opt to look elsewhere in the summer, leaving Wolves with a dilemma if Traore returns. They would only have him under contract for another year at that point.

According to Football Insider, Wolves would prefer to sell Traore than let his deal run down. In turn, Everton are the ones hoping to benefit.

The online outlet claims that Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell, who was with Wolves when they signed Traore, wants to pick up the 26-year-old again.

The winger’s Premier League experience may be beneficial, despite a lack of consistency over the years.

Adama Traore targeted to replace Richarlison

He would in theory be a replacement for Richarlison, who is on the lookout for a new club even if Everton avoid relegation.

Indeed, the potential departure of the Brazilian could be one of a number of changes to the playing squad at Goodison Park in what will be a summer rebuild.

Thelwell will be aiming to oversee some useful signings and he believes Traore could be one of them.

There are no details yet on how much Everton may be willing to spend on Traore, nor how much Wolves would be asking for.

They spent a fee believed to be in the region of £18m to sign him from Middlesbrough back in 2018.
