Benfica caretaker manager Nelson Verissimo hopes that Darwin Nunez could generate a fee of over £100million if he is sold this summer.

Nunez is one of the most sought after players in world football, with the striker having scored 31 goals in 36 games for Benfica across all competitions this season.

It isn’t guaranteed that Benfica will let Nunez leave this summer but if he does depart then they will be looking for a similar fee to the £113million that they received from Atletico Madrid for Joao Felix in 2019.

Asked if Nunez could generate a similar fee to Felix, Verissimo, as reported by goal, said: ‘What do you think? Darwin is an excellent player, he has shown all his quality. He has helped the team a lot, it is true that the team has also helped him a lot.

‘He is a young player with a lot of potential, it is natural that given what has been his growth throughout this season and also a lot as a result of the performance he has had in the Champions League games, it is natural that he arouses the interest of the big European clubs.’

Verissimo added that Nunez may not depart until 2023 but outlined his desire to get a significant transfer fee for him.
