Jamie Carragher has warned Mohamed Salah he could ‘lose his legacy’ at Liverpool if he leaves for a rival as the Egyptian’s contract talks with the Reds remain at a stalemate. 

Liverpool legend Carragher pointed to the example of Fernando Torres, who was a hero on Merseyside until he switched to Premier League rivals Chelsea and was turned on by fans despite his glittering time at Anfield.

Salah is out of contract in June 2023 and is believed to be looking for a new deal worth more than £400,000 a week.

Carragher believes Salah will stay at the Reds

Liverpool, however, are unwilling to break their wage structure to meet the Egyptian’s demands and Carragher said Salah would be wise to reset his expectations.

‘I don’t think Liverpool will up their offer at this moment,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City. 

‘But I think Mo Salah should be sensible, he and his representatives should understand the situation they have at Liverpool.
