Ronaldo back, but Man Utd star set for operation and spell out as Rangnick gives team news

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has confirmed a return for Cristiano Ronaldo but a Luke Shaw injury blow in his team news update.

Ronaldo missed last Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Leicester due to illness. The 37-year-old has continued to make an impact and his recent absence came after a hat-trick against Tottenham.

But while he will return to the squad for the upcoming clash with Everton, Rangnick offered mixed updates elsewhere.

He confirmed that left-back Luke Shaw requires an operation on a previous leg injury. The England international came off at half-time against the Foxes.

Centre-back Raphael Varane, midfielder Scott McTominay and striker Edinson Cavani will also not feature against the Toffees.

“Cristiano is back again,” Rangnick told his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Luke is still injured, we had to take him off at half-time, he’s had his problems with his leg where he had the operation in 2015.

“The doctor told me they decided to remove two metal bolts in his leg and this will happen tomorrow and he will be out for the next two or three weeks.

“Cavani is still injured, Raphael Varane is still injured and will be missing out again tomorrow and the same is true for Scott McTominay.

“He’s having problems with the sole of his foot.”

Rangnick added that injury problems have made it hard to keep up the progress he has made at Old Trafford.
