Michael Owen backs Man Utd, Arsenal target Darwin Nunez to secure ‘top’ transfer

Darwin Nunez has all the attributes to join a “top European club” amid links with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, Michael Owen has claimed.

There have been plenty of transfer rumours regarding Darwin Nunez in recent weeks. Arsenal and Man Utd both need a new striker for next season and have reportedly been looking at him.

The Uruguay international got the chance to showcase his abilities in front of a Premier League audience when his Benfica side hosted Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

Although Benfica lost 3-1, Nunez scored their goal. Not out of the tie yet, he will be hoping to prove a further point when the sides reconvene at Anfield next Wednesday.

But Nunez had already been earning admiration ahead of kick-off on Tuesday. On BT Sport‘s coverage of the build-up, ex-Premier League striker Michael Owen backed him to earn a big move in the summer.

Owen said: “He’s a great shape for starters. Nowadays, if you’re going to lead the line on your own you’ve got to have a real presence and he’s got that.

“He’s got size, he’s good in the air and he’s quick as well. He’s deceptively quick.

“Only 22 years old. You think of how many decent strikers Uruguay have had in the past, and this lad looks like the next on the conveyor belt.

“He will give Liverpool problems, he’s certainly well touted around Europe. He could be the next one to join a top European club; he’s got plenty about…
