Tottenham and Manchester City are both reportedly interested in signing teenage Derby County goalkeeper Jack Thompson.
The Rams remain in financial turmoil, having been in administration since September which resulted in two separate points deductions of first 12 and then a further nine.
The club’s struggles mean they will almost certainly have to offload some of their top players. And The Sun reports that 15-year-old academy talent Thompson, will be near the top of the list.
The youngster has a number of Premier League suitors, with Spurs and City named as major ones.
The report adds that Derby are almost certain to sell if a ‘sizeable fee’ is presented as a potential windfall.
Chelsea are also mentioned as potential bidders, although their current operational issues mean they are unable to make any offers.
Thompson his considered as Derby’s best prospect of his particular age group in the academy. The youngster has also been capped for England at youth level.
Spurs, City have one eye on the future
Tottenham are looking at Thompson in order to bolster their academy, with one eye very much on the future.
Veteran stopper Hugo Lloris has already extended his stay for a further two years. However, the France skipper is now 35 and expected to head back to his homeland when his new deal expires.
The hope is that Thompson emerges as a strong back-up option. While the best case scenario sees the youngster take over as No.1 in five or six years time.
