A pundit has named the two Chelsea players who would work well under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool if the Blues are forced to sell this summer.
Chelsea’s finances are under threat following UK Government sanctions aimed at owner Roman Abramovich. Four groups have made the final shortlist to buy the club from Russian businessman Abramovich.
However, any change of ownership will result in major implications for Chelsea and its players.
Abramovich has written off plenty of the Blues’ debt to keep them competing at the highest level. In early March, this sum was revealed to be an astonishing £1.5billion.
The next owner is unlikely to put so much money into the west London outfit. That could mean first-team stars are sold to offset any losses.
One potential exit is that of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. He only returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer but is now wanted by former club Inter Milan.
Liverpool backed to pursue Chelsea duo
Michael Thomas, who made 163 appearances for Liverpool, wants the Reds to land two of Lukaku’s team-mates.
“Clearly the Chelsea situation is not ideal for anyone at the club. But they do have loads of talented players,” Thomas told CaughtOffside.
“There would probably be two players I would take at Liverpool – [Kai] Havertz and [Mateo] Kovacic.
“I think both those players could integrate into the current system and do well.”
