Arsenal finally ready to let versatile Maitland-Niles depart Emirates in summer

On-loan Roma midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles looks set to make a return to the Premier League this summer, claims a report.

The Arsenal man was allowed to leave The Emirates in January to get a season of first-team football under his belt in Serie A. The 24-year-old is though expected to return to London in the summer and there will be a scramble for his services.

His time in the Italian capital has been mixed. He has played in a variety of positions, but he has not made the line-up in the last four games.

With one year remaining on his contract he will likely be sold, with Mikel Arteta not interested in retaining him, according to the Daily Mirror.

They report that Arteta will be looking to make changes to his squad. And “Maitland-Niles is likely to be one they allow to leave”.

Everton were previously interested last summer but had a £10m offer turned down by Arsenal.

That left the defender come midfielder far from happy and he took to Instagram: “All I wanna to do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play (sic),”

‘I see a different player’

That type of offer this summer may well be accepted by the Arsenal hierarchy with the player’s contract entering the last 12 months.

 

Maitland-Niles spent the second half of last season with West Bromwich Albion and a summer move looked likely. But Arsenal blocked his exit to Goodison and he was reintegrated into the first team.
