Man Utd, Man City leapfrogged as Arsenal take centre stage in pursuit of Leicester City midfielder

Arsenal are reportedly ahead of Manchester United and Manchester City in the race to sign a Leicester midfielder valued at £60million.

Mikel Arteta is hunting reinforcements in the centre of the park with two players potentially leaving this summer. Mohamed Elneny will become a free agent on June 30 and could leave for the Turkish Super Lig.

Besiktas and Galatasaray are both keen to sign the Egypt international, who has made just seven Premier League appearances this season.

Arteta may also lose Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka once the transfer window reopens. The enforcer remains of interest to Jose Mourinho and Roma, after their failed attempt to land him in 2021.

Arsenal could be set for another big summer of spending, and Arteta has his sights on one Leicester man – Youri Tielemans.

According to The Sun, the Gunners are in the driving seat to capture the Belgium star. Their strong position in the pursuit of Champions League qualification puts them ahead of United in the race for Tielemans.

The 24-year-old may also like the idea of joining the transformation going on at the Emirates. Arteta is giving young players a chance and is reaping the rewards.

Arsenal are apparently more likely suitors than City, even though Pep Guardiola’s men are fighting for the title. Perhaps Tielemans sees himself as a regular starter under Arteta, which cannot be guaranteed with Guardiola.
