Kerry Abello inks contract with Orlando Pride


ORLANDO, Fla. — Penn State alumna Kerry Abello signed a two-year contract with the NWSL’s Orlando Pride on Friday.
 
Abello was selected No. 24 overall by the Pride in the 2021 NWSL Draft, making her the 15th Penn Stater to be selected to the NWSL in program history.
 
She elected to play her fifth year at Penn State, where she would make 21 appearances with two goals and three assists. In her final collegiate season, she helped lead the Nittany Lions to their 27th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and their fifth consecutive Sweet-16 appearance.
 

In the fall, Abello served her second season as co-captain of the team. She claimed numerous accolades including back-to-back women’s soccer Academic All-American of the Year. It marked her fourth Academic All-America recognition, earning first team accolades in 2019 & 2020-21 and second team honors in 2018.
 
She earned the second All-North Region honor of her career and was named All-Big Ten for the third time as well.
 
The Batavia, Ill., finished out her collegiate career at Penn State having appeared in 92 games with 70 starts. In her career she has scored 17 goals and 10 assists. She was a member of three Big Ten Championship teams and won two Big Ten Tournament Championships.
 
After signing her contract with the Pride, Abello will be placed on the team’s supplemental roster.
 
The Pride will begin the 2022 preseason on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at the Orlando Health Training Ground at Sylvan Lake Park.
