CHICAGO, Ill. – Former Illini forward Hope Breslin was selected by Angel City FC with the 28th overall pick in round three of the NWSL Draft Saturday afternoon. Breslin becomes the third player in Illinois soccer history to be drafted in to the NWSL.

Breslin wrapped up a stellar career in the Orange and Blue this past fall, starting 72 of her career 76 games played. Breslin recorded 18 career goals, good for 11th all-time in program history, nine career assists, and 46 career points.

Based in Los Angeles, Calif., Angel City FC is one of two new NWSL teams starting competition in the 2022 season. Breslin became the first-ever pick by Angel City in the NWSL college draft Saturday afternoon.

Illinois soccer now has three players drafted into the NWSL, with Breslin joining former Illini Janelle Flaws (33rd overall, Chicago Red Stars, 2016) and Illini Hall of Famer Vanessa DiBernardo (4th overall, Chicago Red Stars, 2014) as Illini drafted into the league.

The 2022 NWSL season begins with the Challenge Cup from Mar. 17 to May 9, with the regular season following afterwards.
