FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All four New England Revolution Academy teams were in action last Saturday as the MLS NEXT spring season continued. The U-19s hosted BW Gottschee Academy while the U-17s and U-15s welcomed Nashville SC to Gillette Stadium. New England was victorious in all three of those matches, while the U-14s hit the road to take on Valeo FC in Newton, Mass.
The U-19s notched a 3-1 victory over BW Gottschee Academy with defender Morris Matthews (2003 – Cambridge, Mass.) scoring twice to bring him to four goals on the season. Forward Greg Cook (2004 – Las Vegas, N.V.) added a third goal for New England. The U-17s also won their game, 3-1, vs. Nashville SC. Forward Malcolm Fry (2005 – Groton, Mass.), forward Benaiah Hanson (2006 – Forney, T.X.), and midfielder Marco Dos Santos (2005 – Methuen, Mass.) all tallied to give the U-17s their ninth win of the spring.
The U-15s secured a clean sheet vs. Nashville SC with goalkeeper Marshall Nason Martin (2007 – Norwood, Mass.) earning the start in net. Forward Peyton Miller (2007 – Unionville, Conn.) scored twice, notching his 21st and 22nd goal of the 2021-22 MLS NEXT campaign. The U-14s fell vs. Valeo FC, 2-1, on Saturday with forward Braydon Fagundes (2008 – Warwick, R.I.) scoring the lone New England goal.
At the Major League Soccer level, Revolution Academy alum Damian Rivera, 19, delivered a stellar performance for Bruce Arena’s squad in his first MLS start on Saturday, April 30. The Cranston, R.I. native became the third player in MLS history to score in the first minute of his first career start when he delivered the game-winning goal only 56 seconds into the Revolution’s win vs. Inter Miami CF. Rivera is the second Academy graduate to score for the first team this season alongside Justin Rennicks.
