The stamina shown by Liverpool new boy Luis Diaz has astounded one of his predecessors on the pitch, Dirk Kuyt – who thinks the Colombian can get even better.
Liverpool signed Luis Diaz from Porto during the January transfer window. Effectively the last signing of the Michael Edwards era, he looks like a fitting parting gift from the sporting director.
Diaz has made a quick impression at Anfield. He has three goals and one assist from 13 Liverpool appearances so far. What has really set him apart, though, has been his work rate.
According to Dirk Kuyt, who played for Liverpool between 2006 and 2012, Diaz’s energy surpasses his own. As such, it makes him a seamless fit for how Jurgen Klopp wants to play.
Kuyt told LiverpoolFC.com: “I could run a fair bit when I was a player, but I must admit I’m jealous of Luis Diaz’s lungs. His stamina is amazing.
“It looks like it’s in his veins to press, so it’s no surprise to see why he’s adapted to Jurgen Klopp’s system so quickly.
“And you must remember he came to Liverpool halfway through the season, doesn’t speak the native language and dropped in a system that has, understandably, taken other players a bit of time to get to grips with.”
Kuyt went on to allude to how he took his own time to settle with the transition to Premier League football after joining from Feyenoord. As for Diaz, though, there has been no delay.
