Cougs Blank Dons in 3-0 Home Victory

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women’s soccer team defeated the San Francisco Dons, 3-0, Wednesday night at Lower Soccer Field in the final home match of the season. Senior transfer Jordyn Young scored a pair of first half goals and fellow senior Maggie Mace added a third from the penalty spot in the second half to give the Cougs their sixth shutout of the season.
 
The Cougars started on their heels, calling upon senior Zora Standifer for a crucial 11th-minute save to keep the match scoreless. Young delivered the first Wazzu pressure of the game in the 19th minute forcing a blocked shot from a tight angle. WSU capitalized on the set piece as sophomore Audrey Shackelford delivered an outswinging corner kick to the head of Young and the game-winning goal.
 
Shackelford picked up her fourth assist of the season, tied for most on the team, while Young earned her team-best fifth goal. Young doubled the lead in the 25th minute, as the Cougars continued to press high into the Dons’ defensive third. Jumping a passing lane from the San Francisco ‘keeper, Young blocked and ricocheted the pass into the goal for her first career brace.
