USC Women’s Soccer Comes Back for 3-1 Win at Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – The USC women’s soccer team scored three times in the second half to take down Pepperdine on the road, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.
 
After giving up an early goal and entering halftime behind, USC struck three times in the final 38 minutes to pick up the victory.
 
Faith George picked up the equalizer with the first goal of her collegiate career in the 52nd minute, when she got a feed from fellow freshman Ines Derrien and fired a rocket through the keeper’s hands. It would be senior Hannah Griffin that put the go-ahead goal in the net, when she struck from deep down the right sideline off the keeper.
 
USC’s third goal was ruled an own goal, but was caused by Simone Jackson streaking into the box and sending a cross back to the middle that hit off a Pepperdine defender and in.
 
The Trojans owned a 15-7 shots advantage in the contest and held 68% of the possession.
 
SCORING
2′ – PEPP: Tori Waldeck (assisted by Julia Quinonez) – Quinonez sent a pass ahead into the left side of the box and Waldeck ran onto it and shot inside the right post.
 
52′ – USC: Faith George (assisted by Ines Derrien) – Derrien found George in the left side of the box and George took a touch back towards the middle and fired a shot inside the near post.
 
61′ – USC: Hannah Griffin (assisted by Maile Hayes) – Hayes played a ball forward to Griffin who carried the ball down the right side and sent a shot from outside the box near the endline that went off the diving keeper and…
