June 2, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – El Paso Locomotive FC News Release

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC, alongside ESPN and the USL Championship, announced its June 18 match at Detroit City FC is set to be broadcast nationally to millions of homes on ESPN. The match is scheduled for kickoff from Keyworth Stadium at 10:00 a.m. MT.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to be on the flagship channel for the worldwide leader in sports,” said Locomotive General Manager, Business Operations Andrew Forrest. “The club has worked hard over the course of four seasons to put ourselves in a position to be chosen for such a landmark game. We would like to extend a huge thank you to USL and ESPN for seeing the value of our fanbase nationwide to include us against Detroit City and their fanbase. We look forward to a great game in Detroit on June 18.”

This historic move marks the first time in Locomotive and USL Championship history a regular season match will be broadcast live on ESPN. El Paso Locomotive was featured in nationally broadcasted games previously, having been highlighted on ESPN Deportes in four matches throughout 2021 and 2022.

Southwest University Park played host to ESPN Deportes twice, welcoming OKC Energy in 2021 for the Home Regular Season Finale and New Mexico United in the 2022 Home Opener. Locomotive additionally appeared on ESPN Deportes earlier this season against San Diego Loyal SC at Torero Stadium and against Austin Bold FC at Bold Stadium in 2021.

In addition to El Paso Locomotive FC’s first meeting with Detroit City FC’s being moved to ESPN, Hartford Athletic and Louisville City FC will also air on ESPN the following week, on June 25.
