Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has revealed the club’s board have ‘articulated their desire’ to keep star duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at the club.

Both players are out-of-contract at the end of next summer and are yet to agree new deals with the club.

After another stellar season, Salah is reportedly wanting a contract that matches other top players around the world, whilst Mane has draw interest from Bayern Munich in recent weeks.

Despite the uncertainty over the futures of the forwards, chairman Werner has insisted Liverpool want to keep the pair.

Speaking to The Athletic, Werner said: “I’d like to keep those conversations confidential but obviously we’ve articulated our desire that they remain. Beyond that, I’ll leave that to Julian [Ward].”

Liverpool narrowly missed out on the Premier League title on Sunday but despite that, Werner has been delighted with the success across the club this season.

“The margin couldn’t have been narrower. When Aston Villa scored their first goal, I thought, ‘Oh my, this could actually happen’. The roar of the crowd was quite remarkable as the news from Manchester passed from person to person.

“In the end, the prevailing thought I had was of pride in what the team did on Sunday, and all season long. Making the title race go down to the final day of the season was an achievement in itself.
