Rodgers snubs Man City, Liverpool as he reveals ‘best team’ Leicester have faced this season

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers applauds the fans

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers thinks Chelsea are the “best team” his side have faced this season, not Manchester City or Liverpool.

The Citizens and the Reds have been the two runaway leaders at the top of the Premier League this season as the title race goes down to the final day.

Chelsea have been very inconsistent and will have to settle for third or fourth place depending on how the final week of the season goes.

Liverpool hope to follow six champions who used end of previous season to tease brilliance

However, Rodgers thinks Chelsea are the “best team” they have played all campaign with Thomas Tuchel’s side on “top of their game” when they clashed earlier this term.

Ahead of the clash between the Foxes and Chelsea today, Leicester boss Rodgers said: “I would go as far as to say Chelsea are the best team we have played this season. When we played them early on in the season, they were at the top of their game. I thought they were outstanding.

“Not long after that moment, they lost some players. I’ve said it before, even with squads like Chelsea’s you need your top players available. Over the course of the time, they have had players out, key players who make the systems function to the highest level.

“Then obviously, there’s the distractions behind the scenes, and of course, that’s a challenge. What I do know is they’ve got an outstanding manager who has done a fantastic job since he’s been there. They’ve got a group of really good players, top, top talents.”

Ninth-placed Leicester, who reached the last four of the Europa Conference League, beat Watford 5-1 on Sunday and Rodgers wants to keep fighting for a top-half finish this season.

Rodgers added: “We want to keep fighting to finish well and put a marker down for next year.

“A top-10 finish and a semi-final of a European competition is still a really good season for Leicester City when you consider the competition we have in the league.”
