Sporting Kansas City will host Houston Dynamo FC in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, scheduled to be played May 24-25. U.S Soccer will confirm the full Round of 16 schedule – including match dates and times– on Friday and tickets, which are included in all Sporting Kansas City Season Ticket Member packages, will go on sale at 10 a.m. CT on Monday, May 16 via SeatGeek. U.S. Soccer conducted the Round of 16 draw tonight, confirming the matchups and hosts for the next two rounds of the 107th edition of the competition. The winner between Sporting Kansas City and Houston Dynamo FC will secure a berth in the quarterfinals and will host the winner between Minnesota United FC and Union Omaha.
Sporting KC advanced to the Round of 16 with a thrilling 4-2 win in extra time against FC Dallas on Tuesday at Children’s Mercy Park and are one of 13 MLS clubs remaining in the field along with two USL Championship teams and Union Omaha from USL League One. Open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer, the 2022 U.S. Open Cup features the largest field in the competition’s modern era (1995-present) with 103 clubs from all levels of American soccer. U.S. Soccer’s national championship will crown a champion in September after eight rounds of single-elimination play.
