Open Cup Matchup with Minnesota United FC Postponed to May 12 Following Multiple Weather Delays

DICK'S Sporting Goods Park to Host U.S. Women's National Team Friendly with Colombia on June 25

May 11, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Colorado Rapids News Release

The Colorado Rapids and Minnesota United FC only spent 20 minutes on the pitch at Allianz Field on Wednesday night before multiple weather delays and torrential rainfall ultimately impaired the sides’ ability to resume play. The Rapids and Loons will face off on Thursday at 12 p.m. MT to decide who advances to the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.

Per USOC rules, if a tied match is terminated before the end of the first half and rescheduled to be played within two days of the original game date, the match will be restarted at the point of termination. Therefore, the two sides will pick up where they left off in the 20th minute with a goal apiece on Thursday.

Prior to the inclement weather that struck Allianz Field, the Loons took the lead in the 8th minute when striker Abu Danladi put one away after finding a splitting run between Keegan Rosenberry and Auston Trusty. The Burgundy Boys replied quickly, as Diego Rubio’s free kick at the top of the box was deflected off the wall twice and cleanly driven into the back of the net by a waiting Nicolás Mezquida in the 15th minute.

The rescheduled match on Thursday will be available to stream on ESPN+ and on Altitude Radio 950 AM.
