Mikel Arteta remained tight-lipped after Gabriel Jesus’s agent confirmed Arsenal have held talks over a move for the Brazilian striker.

Arsenal are keen to bring in at least one central forward this summer and Manchester City’s Jesus, who worked with Arteta at the Etihad, emerging as a contender.

The 25-year-old’s agent Marcelo Pettinati told The Guardian: ‘We had talks with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus.

‘We like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing. There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel. He’s focused on the final games with Man City; we’ll see.’

Arteta refused to fuel the growing talk about an Arsenal move for Jesus, saying: ‘You know I don’t talk about any players that are not with us.

‘I am looking for the strikers that we have in the team, and this is my focus. We have three games to go and that’s the only thing I am focusing on.’ 

Jesus’ game time could well be limited with Erling Haaland arriving at Man City this summer
