May 7, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Detroit City FC News Release

HAMTRAMCK, MICHIGAN – The Detroit City Football Club ended its first match in the USL W League with a 1-1 draw against the Kalamazoo Football Club.

Detroit City had a dominant first half, retaining possession for the majority of the time and enjoying plenty of scoring opportunities.

Le Rouge was able to get the scoring started thanks to forward Ellie Pool who put her team up 1-0 in the 22nd minute. Pool was able to tap in the goal on a close-range pass from wingback Alia Fredericks, who put her teammates in position to score on more than one occasion throughout the match. Her aggressive play won her the “Woman of the Match” award as voted on by the supporters.

Fredericks set forward Kenna White up with another pass near the goal at the 33rd minute. White attempted to bank in the goal with a header but overshot it, resulting in the ball soaring over the goalpost and her going down with an injury. She quickly returned to the play.

Kalamazoo FC retained possession early in the second half, eventually scoring at the 55th minute on a goal by forward Bailey Korhorn to tie the game at 1-1. Midfielder Grace Labadie was credited with the assist. Detroit City threatened with a buildup of shots on goal towards the end of the second half but to no avail.

During the final minutes of extra time, Detroit City was able to salvage a last-minute goal from forward Faith Webber that was then waved off by the referee on an offsides call, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

DCFC will take on Racing Louisville FC Thursday May 12 at Keyworth Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
