Detroit City FC Men Fall for the First Time Since March to FC Tulsa

Detroit City FC Hosts New York Red Bulls II on Saturday at 4 PM

TULSA, Oklahoma – FC Tulsa (4-0-6) gave the Detroit City Football Club (5-2-2) their second loss of the season and their first loss since the season opening game, on Saturday evening at ONEOK Field. Down 3 starters entering the match, DCFC suffered a 3-1 loss, giving up more than 1 goal for the first time this season.

Detroit never held the lead the entire game and just after 21 minutes into the first half, DCFC was down 2-0 from FC Tulsa forward Joaquin Rivas at 16′ and midfielder Rodrigo da Costa at 21′.

Tulsa’s lead was cut in half at 36′ on a goal from City midfielder Michael Bryant, his second tally of the season. The play was initiated from a corner kick by defender Deklan Wynne, that defender Matt Lewis was able to head to Bryant. Uncovered in the box, Bryant was able to thread his shot in traffic through multiple Tulsa and Detroit players to get City on the board.

While City was able to sustain pressure through the second half, Tulsa added to their lead on a brace from Rivas at 78′.

FC Tulsa controlled the play throughout the game with 58% of the ball possession, compared to City’s 42%. Detroit had more shots – 11 compared to Tulsa’s 10. Detroit only had 3 shots on target, while Tulsa was able to connect with 4. Dominating in passing, Tulsa had 145 more passes than Le Rouge during the game.

Notables missing for City during the game were 3 starting players including midfielder Maxi Rodriguez, forward Antoine Hoppenot and forward Pato Botello Faz. Detroit also lost defender Matt Lewis to injury at 68′ of the second half.

This coming Tuesday, Le Rouge will be home for the Round of 32, for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup versus Louisville City. Kickoff from Keyworth Stadium in Detroit is set for 7:30 pm ET on ESPN+.
