Man Utd ‘on pole’ for €90m centre-forward but Newcastle United are ‘ready to go crazy’

According to reports, Man Utd and Newcastle United remain interested in Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen ahead of this summer.

Following spells at the likes of Wolfsburg and Lille, the 23-year-old made the move to Napoli in 2020. The fee for him could rise to €80m with add-ons.

The striker has been impacted by injury and Covid-19 during his time at Napoli. But he has still netted 27 goals from his 59 appearances for the Serie A giants.

Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move to the likes of Man Utd and Newcastle United in recent months.

La Repubblica (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Man Utd are the side ‘on pole’ in the race to sign Osimhen.

The Nigeria international is ‘very popular in the Premier League’ and Newcastle are ‘ready to go crazy’ in an attempt to buy him.

It is stated that ‘around €90m’ would be needed to secure the services of Osimhen this summer.

Elsewhere, Ralf Rangnick was reportedly unhappy with Hannibal Mejbri’s performance against Liverpool despite the Man Utd youngster earning praise from Gary Neville.

Hannibal made his first Premier League appearance of the campaign six minutes from time and got booked only minutes after coming on.

However, Man Utd legend Neville thought Hannibal showed greater tenacity in that short spell on the pitch than any of his team-mates had shown throughout the whole game:

“At least he demonstrated something. I am not saying it is brilliant because he could have hurt the Liverpool players, but as a Manchester United fan you can respond to that.”

His cameo may have gone down well with Neville but ESPN claim that Man Utd interim boss Rangnick ‘was not impressed’ with Hannibal ‘reprimanded’ by the German ‘for a reckless and erratic performance’.

It is understood that Rangnick ‘punished the Tunisia international with a return to the under-23 team’ with other youngsters…
