MAN UTD, ARSENAL IN OSIMHEN BATTLE

Manchester United and Arsenal could both soon submit bids of at least £84million for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to a report.

The two clubs have made an attacking signing a key priority ahead of this summer’s transfer window. While Cristiano Ronaldo has impressed upon his Old Trafford return with 24 goals in 38 games, at 37 he is nearing the end of his career.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are increasingly likely to lose both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette as free agents this summer. Those departures would come after the Gunners let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave in January.

United had links with a move for Nigeria international Osimhen before he moved from Lille to Naples. And Arsenal have had links in the past few months after their failure to sign Dusan Vlahovic in January.

According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno, the interest from both Premier League clubs remain strong.

In fact, the Italian newspaper claims that both Man Utd and Arsenal are likely to make bids of €100million to sign the 23-year-old.

Osimhen has scored 17 goals in 29 games this season, including 13 in 24 Serie A outings.

He has three years left on his Napoli contract, so club president Aurelio de Laurentiis has a strong negotiating position.

Interim Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick has called on the club to sign two “modern strikers” to help incoming new manager Erik ten Hag.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, also needs reinforcements up top as he looks to take his team to the next level.
