Telling update opens door for problem-solving Arsenal transfer Gianluca Scamacca, though competition could be fierce

Gianluca Scamacca, Domenico Berardi, Sassuolo, March 2022.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca “will leave” Sassuolo in the summer, but mentions further interest.

Scamacca has enjoyed a good last few seasons in front of goal. The Italian striker notched nine goals and an assist for Ascoli in Serie B – where he was on loan – two seasons ago.

He was then loaned out to Genoa the following season. Scamacca found the net 12 times in all competitions for the mid-table Serie A side.

That finally earned him an opportunity at Sassuolo, after a number of loan periods. He has grabbed that opportunity with both hands, scoring 13 league goals this season.

That makes him the joint-seventh highest goalscorer in Serie A this season. And while he is an imposing figure, standing at 6ft 5in, he has only scored two headers.

Given the raw materials he has for scoring goals, he has garnered interest from a number of sides. Arsenal are one potential suitor, though it was recently reported that Sassuolo had “received many offers” for the forward.

“Yes, yes, he will leave Sassuolo,” he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE.

“He extended the contract a few days ago but he will leave Sassuolo.

“It was an extension to allow a potential loan with obligation to buy clause”

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract then, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona in January. As such, a striker signing would be a massive bonus, though it seems it will not be easy, per Romano.

“And yes, there are many clubs interested in him,” he said.

“In January, Borussia Dortmund were asking about him. There are many…
