Edu puts forward exciting Arsenal vision to build on last summer’s success in the transfer market

Arsenal technical director Edu says his strategy is ‘ready’ as the Gunners prepare for another summer of spending in the transfer window.

Edu and Mikel Arteta worked hard last year to bring in young stars with great potential. The process worked, as players such as Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard and Takehiro Tomiyasu have all been impressive since joining.

Centre-back Ben White also arrived from Brighton in a £50million deal. At the time, it was seen as a huge sum, but the Englishman is growing into the team and becoming an integral player.

Of course, not all of the captures have gone well. Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares seem to be out of their depth. There is hope they will improve to become regular starters in the next few years.

On the whole, Arsenal’s summer signings are helping them to fight for Champions League qualification. Following their 3-1 home win against Manchester United, Arteta’s men occupy fourth spot. They will be hoping rivals Tottenham drop points against Brentford later on Saturday.

Should the Gunners qualify for Europe’s elite club competition, it will give them a boost for their transfer plans. Big-name stars will be more likely to join once the transfer window gets underway.

Edu details Arsenal ‘strategy’

Edu came in for criticism in January as Arsenal failed to make any signings to bolster Arteta’s options. In response to this, the chief is already getting to work on their summer ‘strategy’.

During an interview with ESPN (via the Evening Standard), Edu said: “We’re going to focus on signing one or two players.

“After last summer’s revolution, we need the next step. We’ve [got] our strategy ready.”

One position they will want to strengthen is centre-forward. Current options Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract this summer.

Potential replacements include Gabriel Jesus, Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins.
