Jurgen Klopp will have another vibrant forward to choose from at Liverpool next year after further details were shed on their Fabio Carvalho deal, and Fulham have wasted no time in lining up his replacement.
The Reds pushed hard to sign Fulham attacker Fabio Carvalho in January. A medical was conducted and terms agreed, though time ran out before the move could be finalised.
Klopp later suggested it made no sense for Liverpool to abandon the deal at the first setback. Reports have filtered through over the last few weeks suggesting the January agreement had been revived.
Now, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has cleared up any lingering uncertainty once and for all.
The journalist tweeted Liverpool are now ‘prepared to sign the paperwork and contracts’ to complete their Carvalho capture.
The reason behind the delay in an announcement reportedly stemmed from Liverpool wanting to show respect to Fulham.
The Cottagers were in the midst of a promotion push and publicly announcing the move could’ve disrupted their campaign.
However, Marco Silva’s side secured promotion to the Premier League on Tuesday night. That has now cleared the way for Carvalho’s move to be signed, sealed and delivered.
Carvalho added to Liverpool firepower
The Reds will pay £5m for his signature with a further £2.7m potentially making its way to Fulham in add-ons. Those terms were agreed in January and have been revived to avoid a tribunal determining the size of the fee.
Romano added the contract will run until the summer of 2027 and Fulham have included a 20 percent sell-on clause.
Carvalho has operated primarily from an attacking midfield position this year. However, like Harvey Elliott – also signed from Fulham – he is adept as playing further forward too.
In another tweet, Romano detailed Fulham’s rapid-fire response to losing Carvalho.
To offset his departure, the Italian reported Fulham have agreed a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon.
