Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastian Kehl has denied rumours suggesting Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Erling Haaland. 

Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to make the Norwegian the highest-paid player in England and as Sportsmail revealed earlier this week, City remain confident they will win the race for Europe’s hottest property, although it is not yet a done deal.

Kehl says no deal has been reached but admitted Haaland does have a release clause and a decision on his future will need to be made ‘as soon as possible’.

When asked if a club has expressed interest in paying the £63million release clause, Kehl told Sky Sports Germany: ‘There is a release clause, you know, and there is a deadline.’

He added: ‘We want to make a decision as soon as possible.’

Sources have disclosed that the Norwegian’s next destination is likely to be announced in the next fortnight.

Last month, this newspaper revealed that the striker had discussed personal terms with City and that the Premier League champions were willing to pay him in excess of £500,000 a week, which would make him the country’s highest earner.
