Paul Pogba’s brother points to ‘false promises’ after first Man Utd exit

The brother of Paul Pogba says he encouraged the midfielder to leave Manchester United the first time because of “false promises”.

Pogba, who is out of contract this summer, left Old Trafford initially in 2012. The France World Cup-winner was only 19 at the time and he was accused of lacking respect by then boss Sir Alex Ferguson. Pogba was considered to be one of Manchester United’s outstanding talents in the Academy, but he rejected numerous offers to stay.

Pogba signed for Juventus after seeing his contract expire at United. He went on to enjoy great success in Turin and played there for four years, winning four league titles and two Coppa Italias.

He returned to United in 2016 for £89m, but his time has been blighted by controversy, although he has won a League Cup and Europa League title.

Hi agent Mino Raiola has been very vocal over the last few years, threatening a departure for his client. And this summer it is expected that Pogba will move on again on a free transfer.

But the first time he left was down to the club breaking promises, says Mathias Pogba.

Asked whether he had anything to do with his sibling moving to Juve, he told So Foot via Sport Witness: “Not only did I push him a little: it’s thanks to me that he signed there! I convinced him, 100%. And look at the player he has become. In Manchester, they were making him false promises.”
