Newcastle’s budget for the summer transfer window is set to be less than expected as they have reportedly ruled out making expensive superstar signings. 

The Magpies have been linked to some of the world’s finest players since their Saudi-led takeover back in October – making them the richest club in football. 

Eddie Howe’s side spent a massive £90million during the January transfer window, with many expecting they would smash that figure during the summer.

However, the Telegraph have reported that the Magpies actually plan to spend less than the amount they spent in January – in the region of £60m.

Preliminary recruitment meetings have been held involving chief scout Steve Nickson, Howe and acting chief executive Amanda Staveley.

On the back of those discussions, a lavish summer spending spree has been ruled out.

It’s said they will favour ‘pragmatic ambition’ in the transfer market which will allow them ‘room for manoeuvre’ under the Financial Fair Play rules.
