BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Fifteen former Indiana men’s soccer student-athletes are gearing up for the 2022 Major League Soccer season, set to kick off Saturday, February 26.

The list of former Hoosiers in MLS includes 11 players, two head coaches and two members of front office staff.

Members of Indiana’s 2021 team are set to make their introduction to MLS. Goalkeeper Roman Celentano and forward Victor Bezerra will play their first professional seasons in the nation’s top domestic league. Celentano was selected No. 2 overall by FC Cincinnati in the MLS SuperDraft, while Bezerra signed a homegrown contract with Chicago Fire FC.

Celentano isn’t the only former Hoosier starting anew in Cincinnati. In December, Pat Noonan was named head coach of FC Cincinnati, joining Caleb Porter as the second former Hoosier actively serving as an MLS head coach. Porter is a conference and in-state rival for Noonan as the former gets set for his fourth season with the Columbus Crew and 10th as a head coach in MLS.

The quest is renewed for the MLS Cup. Four Hoosiers helped their clubs make runs in the 2021 playoffs, with both Jack Maher (Nashville SC) and Drew Moor (Colorado Rapids) reaching the semifinal round. Both center backs helped bolster two of the league’s top defenses last season. Maher and Nashville SC allowed a league low 33 goals, while Moor and the Rapids conceded just 35. Maher is set for his third season in the league, while Moor has reached year 18 in MLS.
