CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illini soccer head coach Janet Rayfield announced the 2022 Spring Schedule Wednesday afternoon. All games played will be exhibition matches, and serve as preparation for the 2022 soccer season.
The slate begins with a trip to Rockford, Ill. to take on the Chicago Red Stars of the NWSL, who made their first ever appearance in the NWSL Championship last season and includes former Illini Vanessa DiBernardo on the Red Star roster.
The home slate will begin on Mar. 25 with a 7v7 tournament featuring Illlini soccer student-athletes. Illinois will also host three “Friday Night Lights” exhibitions featuring Team Orange vs. Team Blue on Mar. 25, Apr. 8, and Apr. 22.
The Illini will also welcome Eastern Illinois and Grand Valley on Apr. 2, Illinois State and Indiana on Apr. 16, and Saint Louis University on Apr. 30 to wrap up the spring exhibition schedule.
“The goal of the spring season, both as individuals and as a team, is growth and development: to improve in every position and progress collectively” head coach Janet Rayfield said. “This competitive spring exhibition schedule will give us the opportunity to bring that improvement into the competitive arena and evaluate ourselves, to see and celebrate the growth we have made, and then set new and more challenging goals moving forward. These games are a critical part of our growth process.”
All spring exhibition games at home will be played at Demirjian Park and will be open to the public.
