IOWA CITY, Iowa – One hundred and 13 University of Iowa student-athletes have been named to the 2021 Big Ten Fall Academic All-Conference team. The list includes student-athletes from men’s cross country (9), women’s cross country (17), field hockey (17), football (40), women’s soccer (19), and volleyball (11).
Five of the six teams either matched or set school records. Men’s cross country, women’s cross country and field hockey all had school record totals, while volleyball eclipsed their most honorees for a second straight season. Soccer’s 19 selections matches the school record for a second straight season and third time in program history, while football’s 40 selections are second-most all-time (one off the program record).
The Big Ten Conference recognized 1,823 fall sports athletes. The list includes 161 field hockey players, 699 football players, 151 men’s and 221 women’s cross country runners, 157 men’s and 281 women’s soccer student-athletes and 153 volleyball players.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of November 1 for fall sports, who have been enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
