BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – With their best season since 2013 the Indiana women’s soccer team took another step forward, but they know there is still work to do to get to where they want to be.
There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic after a season in which the Hoosiers finished with a likely top 50 RPI ranking and positioned just outside the NCAA Tournament field.
“We took another step in the right direction, but it’s not good enough yet, and honestly it will probably never be,” IU head coach Erwin van Bennekom said. “We need to become more dominant in possession, controlling the ball and transitions better, which will ultimately result in creating more scoring chances and goals. The off season will very be important to make sure we are set up to make another step forward.”
“I’m very excited for the team we have coming back and the incoming student-athletes who will be joining us,” van Bennekom said. “We need to continue to raise the level of this program in everything we do and hold those standards. Our coaching staff has done a great job, but just like anyone else we can and will improve as well. I’m looking forward to what is ahead for Indiana women’s soccer.”
