West Ham and Leicester ‘involved in Premier League battle to sign Tete’

West Ham and Leicester are reportedly involved in battle to sign winger Tete from Shakhtar Donetsk.  

The Brazilian winger who is currently impressing on loan at Ligue 1 side Lyon, was previously the subject of links with a switch to the Premier League back in the summer.

It has now been reported by the Sun that West Ham and Leicester are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old – with the view of a potential move during the January transfer window.

The Foxes, as well as Southampton and Brentford, are said to have considered the possibility of making a £25million move back in the summer.

While Tete’s loan is until the end of the season, the under-23 international is keen to move in January and any club looking to strike a deal would have to come to an arrangement to buyout the loan. 

His parent club Shakhtar could be open to a deal given his contract expires next summer, so January would be the final chance to get a fee, having already lost a number of players for nothing following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Tete has made a flying start on loan at Lyon, scoring five goals and assisting three times in his opening 11 games.

Southampton, who are said to have come close to striking a deal for Tete in the summer, are expected not to return in January as they prioritise the signing of a new striker.  

Tete made 108 appearances since joining Shakhtar from Brazilian side Gremio in 2019, scoring 31 goals in all competitions.
