October 3, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and USL Championship today announced the transfer of forward Hadji Barry to Egyptian Premier League club, Future FC. The historic transfer marks the largest transfer fee received in USL Championship history. Per league policy, the details of the transfer will not be made public and is pending league and federation approval.
Hadji Barry spoke about how the decision was a life changing and affirming one for him: “Opportunities like this don’t come often, so it was an easy decision for me to make, but bittersweet at the same time, because I really love this club, I love the organization, love my coaching staff, my teammates. I wouldn’t be the player I am today without these guys, But God usually has other plans [for us] and we can’t question that sometimes.”
He went on to talk about the impact Colorado Springs has had on him and his career: “I enjoyed the last two years of playing professional soccer, and I feel like it has been the best two years of my career, and I have been around the best people that I have met in my lifetime. I would like to make a special thank you to Brendan Burke, without him none of this would have been possible. That’s the guy who believed in me from the first day I walked in here.”
This transfer will be, to date, the largest transfer fee received in the history of both Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and the USL Championship. The fee surpasses that of the Kobi Henry transfer from earlier this season, who went to Reims in France’s Ligue 1 from Orange County SC. The hope with this historic transfer is to showcase to fans, clubs and potential players that the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and the league are dedicated to cultivating players of immense quality and assisting them in continuing their stellar careers as top tier athletes. This opportunity demonstrates that players from around the world can come here to the Switchbacks and trust that we want to them succeed no matter what that entails. The transfer, while coming at a unique time, will also provide innumerable benefits to the club, as the fee will be reinvested back into the club and the players, in order to help continue to attract strong players to our franchise, and allow us to grow our roster both in size and talent.
