Sarina Wiegman has reacted to England’s “special” win over Norway on Monday night in the group stages of the European Championships.

England got their home European Championships off to a perfect start last week as they beat Austria in their group opener at Old Trafford in front of over 68,000 fans.

They knew pre-match on Monday that a win over Norway in their second group game would be enough to book their place in the quarter-finals.

The Lionesses never allowed Norway to get going as Georgia Stanway fired the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 12th minute. Lauren Hemp doubled their advantage a few minutes later.

When asked what her reaction was to be 6-0 ahead at half-time, Wiegman responded: “What’s going on here? That was going through my mind.

“We played well, Norway didn’t have the answers to our game, they didn’t get a press on us and we just worked really well, created chances, scored chances, and it was very enjoyable to watch.”

Hat-trick hero Mead said post-match that she is “loving being part of this team”:

“I’m really enjoying my football, I love being part of this team. Honestly, it’s an incredible feeling to feel how I do right now,” she said.

“I keep saying it, but I can’t put it into words, honestly. I’m just loving being here, loving being part of this team and enjoying every…
