French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly sacked manager Mauricio Pochettino despite the Argentine guiding the side to the Ligue 1 title last season.
PSG are yet to make the decision official but according to ESPN it was agreed on Wednesday morning.
The 50-year-old manager, who had been linked to the Manchester United job in the back-half of last season before Erik ten Hag was appointed, had one year left on his PSG contract.
Nice manager Christophe Galtier is believed to be PSG’s preferred target. Galtier led Lille to the 2020-21 Ligue 1 title.
Zinedine Zidane is also understood to be in contention for the role, having been without a club since leaving Real Madrid 12 months ago.
Pochettino’s exit comes shortly after the departure of club football director Leonardo.
It also comes after Kylian Mbappe’s U-turn, opting to remain with the Parisians rather than move to Real Madrid as was expected this off-season.
PSG failed to achieve their ultimate ambition in the UEFA Champions League under Pochettino, who was appointed in January 2021.
The Parisians lost in the semi-finals to Manchester City in 2021, before crashing out in the Round of 16 to eventual winners Real Madrid in 2022.
Pochettino led PSG to three trophies during his tenure, the 2021-22 Ligue 1 title, along with the 2021 Coupe de France and 2020 Trophee des Champions, played in January 2021.
