COLLEGE PARK, MD — After closing out the first month of the season with a 1-0 win against Navy, Maryland starts the month of September with its second of three-straight road games with George Mason on Sunday. This will be the fourth consecutive year the two programs have met during the regular season, with the Terrapins taking a 2-0 win in 2023.

The game will air on ESPN+.

The Terrapins battled the elements on Thursday in Annapolis to get a 1-0 win over Navy. It was a quiet first half for both teams, as they had a combined nine shots. It remained a stalemate in the second half, until Kelsey Smith put the Terps on top in the 74th minute. The Terps kept Navy at bay for the rest of the game and notch their second win of the season.

Series History – George Mason

  • The Terrapins and the Patriots have met 26 times in the all-time series, with the Terps holding a record of 19-6-1. This will be the fourth consecutive season the two teams have faced off in the regular season, with Maryland coming out with a 2-0 win last season.
  • Maryland got goals from Catherine DeRosa and Ava Morales in the win, and picked up its fourth shutout of the season. The Terps held the Patriots to zero shots, which was the first time they held an opponent to zero shots since they moved to the Big Ten. The Terps took 28 shots in the game, the most since the team had 30 against Yale on Sept. 13, 2015.

  • Liz Beardsley continues to be strong in goal for the Terps. Beardsley has made 19 saves this season, which leads the Big Ten. Beardsley has also been in goal for two shutouts, which ranks in the top 25 nationally and third in the Big Ten.
  • Beardsley was a key force in goal for the Terps during the 2023 season. Beardsley made 67 saves in 2023 for the Terps. Beardsley helped lead the team to six shutouts last season. Her six shutouts a season ago were the most for a Maryland goalkeeper since 2014.
